Do’s And Don’ts in Product Designing
Product design is a field of design that certainly has its rules. Although you’re more than free to express your creativity, it’s still important to know the things that should and shouldn’t be done when it comes to designing products.
DO’s
Let’s discuss some of the things you should implement in the process of product designing.
Focus on the strong points of your design. You might have a lot of ideas to improve your product’s design. However, it’s best to make a product with a few great features than a product with many but mediocre features.
Although having an aesthetically-pleasing design is a must for products, it’s certainly not everything there is. Product design isn’t only about the external appearance of a product. It takes into account other factors like functionality and ease-of-use.
It’s impossible to create the ‘perfect’ product but what is achievable is to create a product that will bring value to those who will use it. Furthermore, it has to be comfortable and intuitive to use.
One of product design’s main foundations is research. It might seem unimportant but it will save you a great deal of time and money once you do the actual design and development.
Although this may be the least of your concerns at the beginning of product designing, it’s still crucial to keep this in mind. You need the packaging to convey what your product’s vision is.
DON’T
There are also some things you should avoid doing in product design.
It is almost impossible for a design to work perfectly in the first try. Thus, you should keep running tests and take notes. Never put off testing your product until the end. Always conduct trials and make the necessary adjustments as you go along with the design.
Designing a product doesn’t necessarily mean developing new technology. Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to be revolutionary. It helps, but for the most part, you just have to come up with good product design. Just improving on a current design will go a long way.
Not every good idea will turn out to be a revolutionary product. If that’s the case, we would be overwhelmed by tons of great products by now. Unfortunately, a good idea is only as good as how it’s brought to life.
This brings us back to one of the Do’s for product design – research. Perhaps, what you thought was a great idea isn’t truly as great as it seems. Moreover, the idea could not be feasible. There are plenty of factors that will go into turning an idea into a product.
Designing a product isn’t simply coming up with a concept. It involves careful planning, research, and a lot of creativity to arrive at a great product.
